A workshop on Bibliometrics and Scientometrics for librariansand researchers, CBE Tanzania (3-7 September, 2018)

Researchers and research administrators are under increased pressure and demands from university management and government review teams, respectively, to not only offer their research products widely through such platforms as open access repositories and social media but also provide evidence of the broader impact of their research. As a result, there are calls for increased active participation of libraries and librarians to (a) provide guidance to researchers on how to effectively use bibliometrics and scientometrics techniques to support researchers’ and universities’ claims on research productivity and impact; (b) provide quality support to enhance wider visibility and distribution of research products through such platforms as open access repositories and social media platforms; and (b) supply researchers, university administrators (including research administration offices), research funders and government with appropriate, meaningful and responsible metrics data for purposes of making informed decisions, including accountability of research investments.
